What Is Nose Aesthetics (Rhinoplasty)? Who Is It Suitable For?

Nose aesthetics, is referred to as rhinoplasty in the medical literature. It is a surgical operation performed to alter the internal and external structure of the nose.

Rhinoplasty is performed on individuals who are aesthetically dissatisfied with the shape of their nose, those who have deformities due to nasal injuries, or individuals with breathing problems. In some patients, rhinoplasty is required for both breathing difficulties and aesthetic concerns.

What Is the Structure of the Nose?

The upper part of the nose is made of bone, while the lower part consists of cartilage and is covered with skin. It plays a crucial role in the respiratory system and overall quality of life.

What Is the Cost of Rhinoplasty?

One of the most influential factors affecting the cost of rhinoplasty is the surgeon’s experience and areas of expertise. Other elements that determine the price include the hospital of choice, materials used, and the technique to be applied.

How Is Rhinoplasty Performed?

During rhinoplasty, if necessary, the nasal bone, cartilage tissue, skin layer, or all three can be reshaped. During the procedure, the rhinoplasty surgeon considers the patient’s other facial features, nasal skin condition, and expectations. A personalized treatment plan is created for patients suitable for nasal surgery.

Nasal surgery can be performed using either the open or closed technique. The appropriate method is determined based on the structure of the nose. At this stage, photos of the nose are taken, and the patient is shown a computer simulation of the expected post-operative appearance.

The duration of the surgery varies depending on the patient’s nasal structure and problems, ranging from 2 to 9 hours. Since the surgical interventions differ for each patient, a precise duration cannot be given.

The patient is usually discharged one day after the surgery. Within a week, most individuals can return to their daily routines.

What Are the Risks of Rhinoplasty?

Nasal surgery is a surgical procedure and thus carries certain risks. These risks may increase due to unsuitable procedures or lack of surgeon experience. Additionally, some risks may be specific to the individual.

Therefore, a thorough examination will be conducted by the doctor to inform the patient about potential risks. Before moving to the planning stage of rhinoplasty, the patient requesting rhinoplasty should have a detailed consultation with the doctor.

During this consultation, the patient’s full medical history is reviewed. The patient’s expectations from the surgery are discussed, and the most suitable nose shape is decided based on the individual’s facial structure. During this process, the doctor performs a complete physical examination, including blood and laboratory tests.

All internal and external issues related to the nose are examined in detail. This helps to define which aspects of the nose will be changed and what issues will be corrected.
