What Are the Surgical Methods in Rhinoplasty?

Today, with the advancement of medical and technological methods, there are various effective surgical techniques for rhinoplasty.

Open Rhinoplasty Technique

The most commonly used method is the open rhinoplasty technique. This method allows complex nasal issues to be resolved more effectively. A small incision is made in the area between the two nostrils to perform the procedure.

With the open surgery technique, where the nasal septum and the problematic area can be viewed more broadly and clearly, the desired shaping can be achieved ideally.

Closed Technique in Open Rhinoplasty

The closed technique involves performing rhinoplasty through incisions made inside the nose. All surgical procedures are done within the nose. Therefore, there are no visible cuts or stitches on the external skin of the nose.

Delivery Technique

In rhinoplasty surgeries performed using the delivery technique, two parallel incisions are made inside the nose. The deformities in the nose are corrected through these incisions.

This technique combines the advantages of both open and closed methods. The surgical field visibility in open technique is also available in the delivery technique.

Modified Delivery Technique

The modified delivery technique differs from the standard delivery method. In this procedure, a second incision inside the nose is not required. Thanks to this advantage, the nasal tip support mechanisms can be preserved. Additionally, there are no issues such as visible incision scars after the surgery.

Rhinoplasty and Recovery Process

The duration of a rhinoplasty surgery varies depending on the type of aesthetics and the surgical methods to be applied. Each patient’s nasal structure and issues are unique. Therefore, it is not possible to talk about a fixed surgery duration.

The operation time may range between 2 to 9 hours. In surgeries performed with the open technique, the recovery period generally ranges from 7 to 10 days if no complications occur.

For the first 1-2 days after surgery, intense swelling, edema, and occasional bruising may occur. Most of these complaints naturally resolve within a week.

While most of the swelling and edema subside within 3 months, complete resolution may take 1-2 years. Full recovery generally requires about 1 year.

For surgeries using the closed technique, the recovery time also averages between 7 to 10 days. At the end of the operation, the silicone splints placed inside the nose and the protective tape applied outside are removed by the doctor within 3-4 days.
