What Is the Aim of Rhinoplasty?

The nose is the most important structure determining the shape of the face. Deformities in the nose can lead to aesthetic dissatisfaction. Rhinoplasty is performed to correct this issue.

Nasal aesthetic surgery is applied not only for cosmetic issues of the nose but also for breathing and functional problems.

What Are the Methods of Nasal Aesthetic Surgery?

Nasal aesthetic surgery techniques vary. Different rhinoplasty techniques are applied according to the procedures the patient may need. Rhinoplasty procedures are categorized into three types: nose reduction, nose augmentation, and operations combining both reduction and augmentation techniques.

With the nose reduction method, localized reduction can be performed on the nasal tip or bridge. To achieve the ideally determined nasal size and shape, a certain amount of cartilage or bone tissue can be removed to reduce the nose.

Nose augmentation is among the reasons for rhinoplasty. Especially due to congenital disproportions or those resulting from accidents or trauma, the nose may be smaller than it should be.

Or the nasal structure may be smaller due to previously performed unsuccessful rhinoplasty operations. Such conditions can lead to aesthetic dissatisfaction and even psychological issues.

Depending on the patient’s complaints and needs, both reduction and augmentation techniques may be used. The operation can be performed as open or closed rhinoplasty, or even non-surgically. The choice of technique is determined by the nasal structure and the targeted outcome.

In Which Cases Is Nasal Aesthetic Surgery Needed?

Rhinoplasty can be performed for many different issues of nasal structure. Especially upon the recommendation of a specialist physician or due to health problems, nasal aesthetic surgery may be necessary. Situations requiring nasal surgery include:

Appearance

A wide variety of appearance-related dissatisfactions are valid reasons for rhinoplasty. Crookedness, a nasal hump, asymmetry of the nose and nostrils, overly large or small nose are among the reasons for nasal aesthetic surgery.

The septal deviation problem, commonly known as nasal crookedness, is one of the most frequent aesthetic reasons for rhinoplasty. On the other hand, previously performed rhinoplasty operations that resulted in failure or dissatisfaction are valid reasons for revision nasal aesthetic surgery.

Breathing and Respiratory Problems

Beyond aesthetic issues, another reason leading a person to rhinoplasty is functional problems inside the nose. Structural abnormalities inside the nose often reflect on its appearance, though this is not always the case. A nose may look ideal externally but have internal structural defects.

Breathing difficulties, snoring, and sleep apnea are serious issues that reduce quality of life.

Injury/Trauma/Damage

Blows, impacts, or accidents to the nasal area cause both internal and external damage to the nose. Trauma from accidents or falls can lead to nasal deformities.

These deformities can cause serious problems not only physically but also in terms of general health and psychological well-being.
